I prefer racing and shooting mostly. Anything that has a good multiplayer option.

Long games. One quarter usually last me 30mins on Rampart and Arkanoid, while one quarter lasts me 45min on G.I.Joe.
i suck at arcade fighters.....strangely i prefer the keyboard
i love flying shooters and light gun games

Well i for one am a street fighter junkie,
so i say FIGHTING games are my department,
but i do enjoy a little puzzle and action from time to time.
I might have one or two rpg's but thats just when i have to cool off or i'm bored with my other games :)

I prefer side-scrolling beat 'em ups (long live TMNT!) and fighting games.

Go to file... play network game.
Then, connect to the server you want to (look for low pings)
Next, either start your own game by clicking "Create new game" or find someone else's to join at the bottom of that window.
What part of this are you having trouble with?

Just putting the mame together and THEN logging onto a server

the build and the source?
You should never need the source since it's already been compiled for you...
