Lol, i am NOT kidding.
The GBA vs bandai's wonderswan.
With the fun loving reviews of the FF II Remake for the Wonderswan on its side.
Do you think the Wonderswan still has a chance to attract Software makers over to it before the GBA takes them all?

Too bad the Wonderswan isn't emulated yet..
But the GBA was before it even came out @_@

True, but....would..GBA -Censored- be a good thing?
No, nevermind... That is not the scope of this thread..

I can't wait for a GBA.....Until i get the money for the JAPANESE one that is...
But then their is the little wonderswan and the.. unknown fate of the Neo-Geo Pocket..
Who knows, The GBC might beat them all again and the GBA...
The GBC has lived through a load of superior tech based Handhelds and has held its ground for all this time...
It feels...hard to let it go after all this time..

I only just noticed something, the gba looks like the sega game gear.
The gba sounds better (although i have no idea what the wonderswan is or looks like)

The Wonderswan is a Handheld System that was made some time ago by Bandai Corp of Japan.
When it came out, it was B/W. But now it is in color.
Yes the shell of the GBA looks a hell of alot the Game Gear's. One of the many handhelds which got offed by the GBC in the US, but the GC did somewhat in Japan and has a cute following still.
Then there is the Neo-Geo Pocket.......and of course.. the never dying Game Boy Color...

I cant wait for the GBA. I dont think Wonder Swan can take it, especially not in the US. It might get a good following in Japan, because of Square making games for it, but its missing Pokemon. I still love my little NeoGeo pocket, with the whole 2 games I have for it. :) Anybody know if I can play Japanese or Europe games on it.

Bah, the Gameboy ruled over the Gamegear even back when it was black and white (or pea-green and black anyway), chock it up to third-party support and Nintendo's ingenuity in marketing the blasted system. Myself I absolutely hate the actual system- the screen is small and not backlit so playing games gives me a headache unless you have one of those little lights for it...
Also the Gamegear was always superior as far as specs go, with a better screen and (in my opinion) better button layout... but Nintendo has been a genius when it comes to their little brainchild, and it definitely won out. Too bad they couldn't use that marketing genius elsewhere.
The nice thing about GBA is that it still supports the old GB/GBC games, so it's not really rivalling the GBC, it's replacing it.

The Gamegear is a stripped down SMS. Or in the japanese sense, a Stripped down Sega Mark III without FM Sound like the USA Sega Master System.
Case in point

Phantasy Star 1 US
NO FM Sound
Phantasy Star Japanese
FM Sound which kicks the US version's a@@
But that is the SMS.

Yes the Geargear Spec wise was better, but so was the Lynx, Turboexpress(Same as a PCE, but without CD support), the Nomad (@_@ Equal to the Megadrive), the Neo-Geo Pocket, and now the Wonderswan.
Also, it seems that the GBA is NOT fully backword compatable. What games it cannot play, i do not know. But guess it must be some unknown Japanese Games no one has ever heard of..

The word was there are like a half dozen games (mostly japanese) that had sound problems or something like that, that's all I heard and that was what was posted on the news at this site, actually.
Beyond that I don't know of any other incompatibilities, but it'd be something to check out if it's of concern.

the neo pockett is only supported in Japan so who nows it might get a good support base there the states and beyond will never get to see it unless u wanna fork out for jap games and understand japie for those games that involve text and crap

GBA wins hands down as most of u have stated sure the others had better specs but they didn't last very long did they now? i don't think anyone will care bout the incompatibilites of games no has ever heard of if it wuz a popular as game then i would be barking at someone from nintendo

Pokemon = guranteed cash. The neogeo pocket is a fab little machine (sonics good fun, so is kof r2) wonderswan color has some neat games (klonoa, the final fantasies) but Nintendo has attracted heaps of attention with the GBA, its got backward compatibility with older GB games, The "Gameboy" is a household name, many people trust it and will buy it. Simply put GBA will stamp over any other handheld machine outside of japan

Actually, speaking of the Wonderswan Color. Bandai was thinking of actually porting it over to the US.
Since i'm too tired(lol) right now to check, i take they desided not to go through with that idea.

Terrifing as it is to say, that looks nice. The isometric view, the coloring, and the graphics all fit together nicely.

Forget the mass merchandising and annoying cartoons.........Pokemon is fun! Having played through the whole of Pokemon Blue, I cant help but admit that the game is actually quite good, and finding a new species of Pokemon, or seeing your fighting machine evolve is quite a thrill.

On the GBA/Wonderswan debate, the Wonderswan will fail everywhere outside of Japan unless the name is changed. Its just too crappy for most peeps. And I really dont think it'll have the games support thats needed in the games industry, especially when its up against Pokemon.

The GBA's current competition in Japan is basically the Wonderswan, with the others currently behind it.
Outside of Japan, there nothing to stop it.
So in the end, the GBA would seem to hold a upper hand thanks to the GBC, and the lack of third party support for all those other Handhelds.

As for Pokemon, I would like it if i would raise Monsters. Not Pokemon. The Closest Thing on a console to that is Monster Rancher(NO I DID NOT JUST RAISE EVERY SINGLE SPEICES/Sub Speices OF PIXIES THAT THE GAME HAS.). But they screwed that series up and they drop DEAD after a few years....

well dragon warrior monsters on the GBC kicked ass it was like capturing evil non cute pokemon :D

XenoG20
04-17-2001, 11:13 PM
I'm not saying that it can't have Cute monsters or your basic Evil Monsters. A game with an Equal number of both would be nice. True i probably just Raise Succubus's, Slyphs, Niyads, Sirens, ETC. with an occasional Dragon........

I can see the ads now: 'Wonderswan. Goofy-ass name, cool shit games.' :D And about the GBA. Would it KILL Nintendo to finally adopt a backlit screen?

The D
04-19-2001, 02:54 PM
You mean the GBA doesn't have a backlit screen??!?!?!?

Jagid_Wolf
04-19-2001, 02:59 PM
Nope.

The D
04-19-2001, 03:49 PM
You're kidding.... man that sucks, I just assumed it would since the screen on GB/GBC sucks MAJORLY, as opposed to the Gamegear screen which is backlit and much, much nicer.
I'm disappointed, Nintendo.

TerryBogard

and dats how dey get u spend some $$ to get the add on, suppose it'll be one of the first few things i'll invest in when i can afford one :(

mink

if it was a backlit screen the batterys would be eaten alive

The D
04-20-2001, 01:06 AM
I know, but they could make a rechargable battery pack that would provide a decent amount of playing time, like the gamegear had...
Oh well, the GBA definitely does have its advantages.
