i swear i read on a news site/mod site/emulation board about something about linux on the ps2. is this true? im sure you have to have the HD. what programs would this run? you know, what would be the use or main purpose of this?

yup you need hd and it comes with keyboard/mouse...very expensive though
its purpose is for game development

Dreamcast also has it but really it's a demonstration of things rather than anything useful.

yeah i think i heard about that too. see i figured if you loaded linux on the HD, maybe it'd run like it does on a pc, then you could load cd/dvd copying software or something, and hook up a external burner in the usb port. you know, copy games, or possibly shit off tv. hell im sure its all possible some way, some how. or am i just dreaming?

Sounds like a dream regards the ps2.....xbox would have more potential for crazy shit i think:p
