BAH!
56 characters!
And they don't even let you have them all!
(Well, that's what I remember when I played the Dreamcast version.)

No, you'd lose if you played me that way. No capcom fighter is a button masher if you are a good player.
But I think I understand why you would say it. After seeing the experts play at tournaments, it's a real dissapointment that only about 10 of the 56 characters are considered good, and ALSO that all the experts do is throw out assists.
BTW I had the game for about a good 3 years since it first came out on Dreamcast. I still remember the release date. June 24, 2000 :D

yeah especially if play with arcade rats
that is all what they do nothing of fancy combos or anything extraordinary that is impresive
I agree though that if some has skill then they can come up with some good moves

yeah it's good plus if you unlock all the people and all they extra colors you can get up to 3 of the same person oh i rule with 3 severbots!! but my main team would be tron bonne cable b.b. hood i can make some cheap teams too try a team of b.b. hood iron man war machine and do there triple attack a kick arse beam that hurts 39 hits X2 plus 52 or 26 (depends if you oppents is big or small) and that's like around 100 hits maybe. try it and you see. yeah x-box has it on there system but no online like capcom vs snk 2 but i only thing i hate about CVS was that it took me a long to get god rugal i ketp on getting fricken shin akuam what a pain in the @$$!!

I like playing MVC2 on Auto mode, with Megaman and Warmachine. Their cheap power moves almost make the game a breeze.

Almost all characters are good if you know how to use them right.
Its a very addictive game, trying to unlock everyone gets you addicted quick, that is ofcource if you like to have fun and play with everyone instead of just hoging the same 3 people.
I play best with Zangief (yes Zangief), Cable, and Morrigan.
Demonicus, the guy in your avatar (Thanos) is in the game too.

I hate zangief what a cheese but nothin is worse than an experienced player with hulk (but my agile jill can take him on)

I dunno, MvC 1 on Dreamcast was a big dissapointment for me, I love Cap fighters, and have mad skill in games like CvS and JoJo and what not, but MvC games do seem like button mashers to me. That and arcade mode is ridiculously hard, even w/ the difficulty all the way down.
crazelunatic
07-24-2003, 09:26 PM
i think most people consider it a button masher because they play it with turbo on, some people like the speed of the classics street fighter which could be achieved if the speed is lowered (then it becomes a more tactical calculating fighter, but it really doesnt matter to me)

What makes this game different is its way of unlocking charaters, I mean you start with less than half, and then theres the other half (the cool guys), which you can only play as if you play lots & lots :D. Thats what makes you play for more than 2 weeks.
True, I know it took me while to get all the characters. I was so happy when I got Ken :D

I rented Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for Dreamcast once before. I had it for like 3 days and I managed to fill up all those question mark spaces by buying characters. But I noticed that after I did that, there were still other characters I could get but I didn't have anymore spaces left to put them. Of course I had to return the game so I never found out or not. But I'm wondering, is it even possible to have every character in that game unlocked at once?
And what the heck is so different between bone and adamantium clawed Wolverine in this game other than the different colors for his claws?
Deep Eyes
07-29-2003, 01:56 PM
You could unlock them all eventually, it'll take you a good while though. I suggest you have a couple of friends over and play the versus mode, earn the points, and buy the characters.
I think the difference between the two Wolverines is that one has certain moves the other one doesn't(head stomp/kick?).
If not that, then maybe it's just a cosmetic difference.

You can unlock everyone except for the boss, but who cares about him? It's pretty sad though, that I've bee playing the game for 3 years and I've been playing Capcom games since Street Fighter 2, but I still can't manage to get to a rank higher than 'first time arcade button masher beater':(

Marvel Vs Capcom 2 is the best in the Street Fighter series if you ask me. It's definitely worth buying if your a SF fan.
My favorite team:
Dr.Doom, Sabretooth and Ryu.

Maybe it just feels that hard for you due to you not being used to the vs series as you would be say for thier old fashion regular 2d series, I noticed that was my issue when I first got into the genre myself.

dunno, I dominate on CvS 1 & 2 (having rugal helps...) but w/ MvC its just not the same gameplay at all. I do a lot better in normal speed though. Well I'm d/l MvC2 for DC right now, I'll have to see if its any better....

i cant understand why some people call mvc a button mashers game its just extended combos it would be the same in a "calm" capcom fighting game if you were allowed to link great hit numbers
its not a button masher for me.. i actually try to study the moves and link combo's up, button bashing is boring. (and it gives you major blisters)
Cant believe they missed some great characters out though... but i cant really argue since the game has 56 of them.

Kyosuke wasn't great in his respective games, and he's just awful in CvS2. They should've put in Hinata or Momo (though I can't even imagine a 2D Momo). At least Hinata and Batsu make cameos in one of his super moves.

I got MvC2 last night. Oh yeah, I like this one a helluva lot more than the first. The ultimate team- Morrigan, Hayato, and Sonsom.
I didn't like the PS2 version too much it felt slower to me than the DC version, well anyway my fave team is Psylocke,Hayato and Strider Hiryu
my team stands as: Ryu, Strider Hiryu and cable
Deep Eyes

My team is usually Spiderman, Strider and Hiryu. The first two for their speed, the second for old time's sake.
To me the ps2 version seems to be going at the same speed as the dreamcast version, but I've never compared them side to side.

Iron Man= Can do great combos

I meant to say, Spiderman, Strider and RYU, not Hiryu.
That should make more sense.
Two fast characters and one semi fast. Sometimes I even use Hulk, just to confuse.

Ah Hulk. I hate him...still. Brings back memories of when I first played MvC. My main team was always Venom and Hulk for some reason. And before that, in MSHvsSF it was Blackheart and Omega Red. My arcade only had that for a few weeks though. I never noticed that my original teams were devoid of Capcom characters before though! What was wrong with me!?
Well the characters are very well balanced so I wouldn't worry about that.
sometimes, i use Ken in the place of ryu. They are basically the same person but bah.
Ryu: Has badass special attacks and is powerful
Strider hiryu: He's fast, and can also jump high which is great for air attacks. His specials kinda suck though :/
Cable: has great combo's. I pulled off something like an 80 hitter with him.

They are very differant, Ken is MUCH faster and has more moves (in most SF games) but Isn't as powerful and his hadouken is MUCH weaker....

I guess what 7im was trying to say is that they look the same and have similar moves. I doubt that the majority of casual gamers care that Ken has a more diagonal shoryuuken or that Ryu is slightly stronger.
Nonetheless, I prefer Ryu to Ken, more fun to play and not as limited. Poor air priority though, :(

Just pick Akuma for a perfect mix of Ryu and Ken.
This of course, doesn't apply to other games such as SNK vs Capcom 2, where he's weak.(weak in taking damage that is)

please, please, call him Gouki.
Ryu normal attacks are stronger but Kens moves are stronger & faster, minus the hadouken. No one ever mentions sakura being the same.
Anyway I really wanna see some EX fighters brought back, especially Skullomania.

It's been so long since I've played any of the older games with Sakura that I can only remember what she plays like in MvC2, CvS and Rival Schools, and she's quite different in the first two. As for Rival Schools...Ryu isn't in that. (unless you count his cameo in Sakura's good ending)

i use sakura alot on MvS because she is fast and quite strong. I choose ryu over ken anyday. Akuma is one of my favourite players but he isnt on MvC2 as far as i know... i havent got all the characters yet. I wish they would make a playable cyber-akuma.

GOUKI GOUKI GOUKI
Its just so much cooler sounding IMO.
anyway I always chose Ken because I'm the master of FQCF moves, and kens dragon punch is awesome. Plus everyone else always chooses Ryu- he's just too slow IMO. And Shoryureppa kicks the shit out of shinkuhadouken anyday.

And Shoryureppa kicks the shit out of shinkuhadouken anyday.
For distance, the Shinku Hadoken can't be beaten. Also, in the vs series, the Shoryureppa doesn't cause as much damage as in the normal alpha series.
elizabethan
08-21-2003, 02:37 PM
Okay you are right about the damage I think, but in MvC2 Shoryureppa goes all the way across the screen. And anyway I am really just judging them by the coolness factor.

I've not played McsC2.
Given a choice out of Ken Ryu and Akuma/Gouki I always use Akuma/Gouki.
He has the largest selection of moves speed isnt everything when you got versitility(sp?)
PS. you can really fuck people up with his shadow dash move (dont know its proper name)
