You know something else that will make it possible to play PAL games on a USA PS2 and shite...
yeah there is the knife trick. There was a link somewhere but if you search on google "knife trick playstation" without the speech marks you'll probably find something.

I just gave up, no point of trying, and then boom, accidently to fuck up the whole system.

Modchip.com has a boot disc. Don't know how reliable they are though. I ordered one and...I'll just make a topic asking!

here u go http://www.playstationmodchip.com/product_details.asp?ID=479 i believe you do need some other device for it to work with a pal console
edit: actually 4get it, i just read that you do indeed have to solder something so its totally not worth it, i dont know about the swap disc though (i would really like something that can play ps cd-rs but i dont think the swap disc does)

i had that chip it boot psx no swap but ps2 u need a game shark or action replay and 2 solder points required but that ps2 shitted out cuz it was a v2 now i got a v7 with a dms3 no-swap i recommmend that and getting it installed professionally if you dont know what your doing.

I got the boot disc/slide card thing in the amil the other day. It works all right, but it's more complicated than they make it sound! You have to unscrew the from of the disc tray and every time you want to play you have to pull the tay out with the slide card a couple of times! Figures you'd have to tamper with the disc tray since my first PS2's broke! Still worth it though if you don't wanna void your warranty.

sry i tend to type fast and not re-read, the neo key external modchip requires 2 solder points to install and an un used usb port on the ps2 preferably the top one and that the switch on it be on. its boots psx backups no-swap when its installed and on, but needs to be started though gameshark or action replay to boot ps2 games.

sigh u guys always have 2 do things the hard way either get a REAL mod chip (messiah 2 or DMS3 are the best)or read an wait:
Marcus R. Brown, a console hacker has discovered a flaw within the PlayStation 2's bios.....allowing users to hijack the boot process and run any piece of code, without the need of modifying the aforementioned console.
At present, PSOne (backup) games are bootable...but it's only a matter of time before someone finds a way to boot PlayStation 2 games.
You can click on the link below, to find out how to take advantage of this flaw.

So, can anyone put that in english for us not so tech savvy? Would this be uncomplicated enough for the average joe to do?

Take a look at the TXT i attached, it shows you how to play PS2 backups by using a gameshark. it sounds really tricky though :(

good point eliz about the tech avy part. I personally thought about doing it but i realized that since sony will seem to continously add backwards capability through each new console it wouldnt be worth having a million cdrs lying around unplayable (lets face it, at least with me if the ps3 can replicate ps1 and 2 games perfectly or even better the ps2 if being sold).
EDIT: Something is weird with that guide fordy what if its a ps2 dvd game and you don't have a dvd drive?

i was thinking about that. i should have edited it or something. oh well.
bah, i may just take terry's advice and cut the crap and get someone who knows what they are doing to fix me a modchip. Easiest way really.
