Just got an email from Sony telling me that I was accepted as a beta tester for Everquest Online Adventures!

Congrats, I did it myself for some time, it was pretty cool. My friend took the disc later on, and he'd play until morning.
It only lasted for around two months, then the testing ended.
Sucks that I never received the Final Fantasy Online one.
im happy for ya, as its not everyday you get to be a beta tester.

Yeah, I'm in Sony's Gamer Advisory Panel, so I could have registered for the FFXI one, but I didn't login for about a week, and it happened to be the week that they were taking apps for the beta. Too bad they didn't announce it in email. Seems they get a free PS2 hard drive
Squaresoft sent me an e-mail announcing the FFXI beta testing but alas I would not be chosen

How, can I get into that whole beta testing thingy?

Just keep checking game news sites (gamespot, gamepro, gamefaqs, etc), and they'll sometimes have news stories about betas. Also check game makers' sites, such as sony, ea, ect.
Register all your games and systems, as well. I received an invitation to the Gamer Advisory Panel after I registered my PS2 Network Adapter.

It also depends on what they're looking for. Sometimes they're looking to test their games with people who have a dial up, other times with broadband. Sometimes they want someone experienced in testing.

It'd also be cool if you got paid for this, in the same way the company's own beta testers test out everything.
Not complaining really, since you are playing a game for free, but aren't you doing a job they pay someone else money to do?
Didn't stop me from doing it though:p

Yeah, I hear you, my PS2 has the infamous "blue-bottom" problem.

The deal is the people they have test it belong to a small team, who get the game in a very rough form, and do testing 9-5 Monday-Friday. Beta testers sit at home, occasionally play an almost ready version of the game, and post in a message board occasionally. Don't know about you, but I see why their game testers get paid and betas don't.

Hello Arthur Gumby: Beta Tester
So, can you divulge anything about the game, or is that against the rules?
Also, I could have sworn an Everquest game for PS2 came out already.....

well i dont know how much your opinion will affect sony's overall hardware strategy but you must tell them that they should give ps2 owners the option to upgrade to some of the features newer model ps2's or the psx is gonna have. Like say a special cd with the drivers of the progressive scan dvd player and then you can install it to the ps2's harddrve and save the data off the mem card. They should also make the 120 gb hd disk availabe and drivers which will allow dvd-r/rw media to be read.

120 GB hard drives can be installed on the XBox... it's no big deal.

Isn't that a bit too big though? 120 gig? that'll open the door to piracy, and we wouldn't want that now.:D

dammit, I still haven't gotten that disc yet, but then again, I've just moved to college, so it might be waiting for me when I get home this weekend...
yeah, you've gotta tell us some info about EQ:OA. Its not like they are gunna find out you leaked it.

I'd have to get the disc before I could even consider it. All I know is that the first one was disappointing, but that's because it was just like EQ (damn, I hate killing rats)

Well, I still don't know anything about the beta disc for EQOA, so I say screw it, cause I got this in my inbox this morning:
Congratulations! You meet all of the requirements and have been invited to participate in the public beta test for SCEA's SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALS for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system.
OOOoooohhhh, yyyeeeeaaahhh...

Ok, I've replied, and they've officially told me that I'm in the test. I should be getting my disc within a week or two. I didn't play the first SOCOM, so I'm pretty anxious to see what it's all about. I'll let you know what I think.
Also, I've heard a few people asking questions about how I found out about these betas and all, so I'm wondering if there's a general interest in me making a post about how to find and apply for betas? (Yes, I am new to the beta community, but I'm starting with a lot of references. Just found a thing for all of Atari's tests.)
BTW, no, I'm not trying to flood this, just keeping up to date.

Crap, Crap, Crapity Crap!
Got the SOCOM II beta this week, but can't use it because the campus network requires registering some crap that the ps2 network adapter doesn't have!

I'm sure there is some way around it. There are wireless adapters for the ps2, that is a possible option...

Yeah, I might just head over to the help desk and beg them to register a DHCP name for it
