Hahahaha, I was reading this GamePro mag from April '98 and in one article, it stated that Midway was working on Mortal Kombat 5 and it would be released sometime that year. Well...where is it, huh? Hahahaha! Maybe it was Mortal Kombat Gold for Dreamcast...

The characters fight exactly the same, their specials put them apart that's all. Enough reasons for it to become old and make space for something new

Exactly. It was hella cool when it started. They tried adding combos and animalities and all the other crap, but I don't think they helped very much. MK4 I hated, 'cuz they tried joining the 3d fighting genre and IMO they failed. Wow, the Street Fighter series outlived Mortal Kombat...

back in the snes days i was a major kombat fan and i still remember the arguments of street fighter 2 vs mortal kombat
i was always on the side of mortal kombat must have been the shock value of the fatailities

I was on the side of Mortal Kombat as well. Well, IF plans are still underway to make a sequel, there better be some brand-spankin' new stuff and not just fatalities. Hell yes, they kick ass, but you can't base a game just around that. Some improvements that need to be made: different basic moves for each character, better 3d arenas, smoother looking combos, SUPER MOVES OF DEATH!!! Muahahahaha!!! (Not really, I'm just a fan of flashy super moves.:D)

I think I am one of the few that passed up MK and Street Fighter for Virtua Fighter. I still find Virtua Fighter to be more challenging than Street FIghter and MK.

Tekken was waaaaaaay to easy. I recently play Virtua Fighter 3 at the local Cinescape (movie theater for all you non-Canadians), and it was way too simple aswell. Hopefully Virtua Fighter 4 will be harder.

Hey, some of us like Killer Instinct
The emulator for it works pretty well, and I personally enjoy it, although I liked KI2 as well as KI Gold better.
Most people don't like KI Gold, I have no idea why.
It's one of my favorite fighting games.

That game was for people who rely solely on combos in fighting games to win and that game was just that...TRIPLE HEAVY SUPER AWESOME BRUTAL ULTRA COMBO!!!!!

well I didn't like it cause it didn't have variety, every guy was almost the same, everyone got a far shooting thing, a short shooting thing, and a medium shooting thing, it was too balanced, but street fighter, you got one guy who teleports, breather flames and stretches his hands and legs across the screen to kill, then you got this creature rolling into a ball and shocking anyone who touches him.

Well, at the time at MY local arcade, KI was the hottest thing EVER. That thing stayed popular for at least a good year!!! It was a pretty cool game, considering the graphics and the new style of gameplay, the "easy death combo". But, when KI2 came out, it stayed popular for about a week... The gameplay just got old. KI Gold didn't sell well here either. (For those who are wondering, I live in FL...But I still live in the depths of a person's soul when I have a chance!!!)

i got to be such a pro with chief thunder then they killed him off and i lost interest in the sequels
theres a rumored killer instinct 3 for the gamecube underway
also killer instinct 2 is ment to incorporated into the killer instinct emu this year i already have the romset :D

Yes that's what they keep saying, I have my fingers crossed.
Also KI Gold should be emulated some day soon; they have it going past the title screen finally, or something like that.

Ahh. MK's future. MK did everything you can in a fighter. 2D, combos, fataility, special moves, weapons, it's all done. Last thing they cna add is Tag. And I wouldn't find that fun on MK as MK4 wasn't too good IMHO.

Capcom makes very nice fighter, even due to it's slow repetitiveness, it's still awesome because it's nice basic fighting, that can go so far.

As for VF.. I'd go after Fighting Vipers, or even better, Fighter's Megamix over VF anyday.

Killer Instinct was a classic. But I'm glad they stopped it. They didn't pull the same future as they did too much as once and the sequel didn't add anything 'new'. On top of that, the game has probably my favorite combo system.

My favorite from each are the ones that have words in them
I remember hearing orchid's music in KI Gold on the N64 and being impressed because it had words :)

KI2 hasn't been confirmed yet. currently rcp, the programmer had a poll to see wot he would do next.
the choices were:
fix bugs in ki1
emulate ki2
emulate other ultra 64 games
emulate mk4
fix up trwin.

i voted for ki2 and other ultra 64 games. :)
