I believe that the only difference is that in silver there are some pokemon that you can't catch in gold, and in gold there are some pokemon that you can't find in silver

I have no personal experience, but Mink claims those pokemon gold/silver/purple/orange/plaid/fuchsia/etc. games are pretty fun

theres a reason pokemon is so popular and its the frikken origional red/blue gameboy games which kicked ass now the n64 games were for fans of the gameboy versions
i used to be the most avid poke hater ever until i tried pokemon blue out and fuck it was great i was hooked
its just such an origional idea for an rpg
then after the success all the crap merchendise came out like the terrible cartoon serious and all the other spin off shit
so for all you dics dumping on pokemon cause you have only seen the cartoon go grab a gameboy and pokemon red or blue and educate yourself on how good the damn game is
oh and a 3D pokemon title is in the works for gamecube and this time it will be the same sort of game as pokemon red/blue/gold/silver so kickass i'll buy it

Not really. Pokemon Red/Blue was a huge hit in Japan, so shortly afterwards they made a cartoon. It all got more popular and so came forth the merchandise and more games. Nintendo are just giving kids what they want.
