Gens v 2.14
Last Updated: 5/21/06
A good MegaDrive/Genesis, MegaCD/SegaCD, 32X emulator with Kaillera netplay. Has long been surpassed as the defacto Genesis emulator since Kega Fusion came out.

Kega Lazarus v SE r5
Last Updated: 6/23/03
Arguably the best Genesis emulator out there. It also includes support for Master System, Game Gear, and SegaCD. Support for the Sega Game 1000 and Sega Computer 3000 added in version SEr4. Do not overlook this emulator.

Megasis v .06a
Last Updated: April
MEGASIS - Genesis EMU

With all of the other good Genesis emulators out there, its easy to overlook Megasis. However, what Megasis lacks in speed and graphical frills, it makes up for with its sprite ripping attributes. Its windows based GUI makes copying and pasting screenshots to your graphics program an easy task. Not only that, but you can enable or disable background and sprite layers, making sprite ripping that much easier.

If you're just looking for a good Genesis emulator, Megasis has a high compatibility rate with most Genesis roms and is definitely worth a try.

Kega v 0.04b
Last Updated: 3/18/02
Quite a fine Master System/Game Gear/Genesis/SegaCD emulator. However, it's author, Steve Snake lost the source in a hard drive failure, so he had to go to an older version of the source and start anew, the result being Kega Lazarus. Grab this one if Lazarus is working funky or not working at all.

Genecyst v x.xx
Last Updated: August
Genecyst is an old DOS based emulator which is now discontinued, but it's still one of the best. There are no graphical filters, but thats easy to overlook because it does everything else really well. This is THE best emulator for sprite ripping. With the ability to disable layers and advance individual frames while paused, creating animated gifs is super easy. Genecyst is a very good, very fast emulator, and definitely worth the download.

Ages v .30a
Last Updated: November
Ages is an up and coming emulator with good speed and sound. You won't get any graphical frills here but so what? Ages supports Kaillera netplay (KailleraClient.dll file required), and some other cool features like the ability to record a wav file while playing. The next release promises avi recording. Ages also supports Sega CD and 32X. There are still a few bugs that need ironing out, but its worth the download.

SEGAEmu v .52
Last Updated: December
SEGAEmu is a strange emulator. It supposedly emulates the SG1000, Genesis, and Sega CD, but I could only get Genesis roms to work (that is, if you call extremely buggy, unpredictable program execution WORKING). The default resolution is 320X240, and there's no way to change it. The GUI menu is very limited, so there isn't much you can do in the way of setting changes to increase the quality. There is no controller support, rom compatibility is sketchy, and usually the graphics and sound are distorted in some way... that is, if you can actually get a rom to run. Supposedly there are plug-ins for it, but I couldn't find any, probably because its been discontinued. Download this only if you want to experience something... weird.

Dgen v 1.21
Last Updated: January
Dgen is a discontinued windows based emulator. Dgen doesn't really shine in any particular way, and everything it does can be done better by other emulators such as Gens. Its not a bad emulator, its just kind of slow, there are some graphical glitches, and the controller configuration is buggy. Give it a try if you want, but there are better emulators out there.

Xega v .10
Last Updated: January
Xega is a decent Genseis emulator, but it has a few quirks. There are zero graphics filters, which kind of hurts this one... at least a scanline filter would have been nice. Xega isn't the easiest Genesis emulator to set up, and you have to mess with the controller and sound options (kind of a hit/miss process) to get them to work properly. This emulator supports 32X and Sega CD, but you have to have the original CD, it won't play iso's. Xega also has the option to disable layers, for you sprite rippers. All in all a decent Genesis emulator.
